I am a Native Son of EPA. For those who may be unaware, EPA (East Palo Alto) is, scratch that, was a small predominately African-American city located in the Bay Area of northern California (immigration both legal and not have changed a lot of things in California). I have spent my entire adult life in Southern California where I attended the University of Southern California and I am a graduate of the Graziadio School of Business at Pepperdine University. However, my consciousness is a direct result of that EPA environment. Raised during a time of extreme social awareness we were taught, as African-Americans, that not only could we overcome but also we were expected to. In spite of the election of Barack Obama as the first African-American President, we are not living in "Post Racial America" as some would have us believe. There is still plenty of work undone. What I hope to accomplish from this forum is at least a dialogue of thoughts and ideas of where we should be and what we need to do to get there. And sometimes I just have funny thoughts to share. You may not always agree we me but that’s what makes for a healthy discussion.
